NOUHAUS Ergo3D Chair Vs. Herman Miller Aeron Chair: Breaking it Down
To make the test fair and easy to understand, we’ll judge the chairs by their key features.
Chair Design
The design of an ergonomic chair is the most important feature as it determines the comfort of the sitter. Usually, customers expect a more customized feel from their ergonomic chair, and they should too!
Most chairs in this category come with a single backrest and pair of armrests, with some that lack a headrest. Let’s check how the NOUHAUS Ergo3D and Aeron chair makes its occupant feel.
NOUHAUS Ergo3D
The NOUHAUS backrest has a 3D lumbar support system that relieves pressure from the neck to your lower back. We found that its unique design helps relieve lower back pain in users who occupy their chairs for three to four hours at length.
It also has a 2D adjustable headrest with ErgoTilt that conforms to hold your neck when you want to recline.
The 4D orbital armrests are soft PU coated and also shift into multiple positions. But aren’t very useful when you want them to stay put.
What we love most is that reclining on this chair is as good as working while sitting on it. The reason behind this is its 135-degree super lounge recline that has a recline lock.
Herman Miller Aeron Chair
Now the Aeron Chair comes in a variety of options with customizable features.
To begin with, the backrest is available in three options, but we found it to be similar to a standard single-unit backrest.
Another option you have with this chair is the choice to go for a standard tilt or a tilt limiter with three different options and a forward angle adjustment.
The best feature of this chair would be its armrests, which come in three options: non-adjustable armrests, fully-adjustable armrests, and height-adjustable armrests.
Winner: Overall, the Ergo 3D is great for users who sit at their desks for a long time, and it perfectly fits the bill for an ergonomically designed chair.
Chair Material and Build
From the base of the chair to the seat, everything affects the user experience. Most users want a breathable seat with enough padding to keep them comfortable. They also expect the build to support them and their weight for years to come.
Now the industry standard is not always what users want. So, let’s see how these two chairs fare.
NOUHAUS Ergo3D
NOUHAUS can support almost 275 pounds on its 5-point aluminum base and class-4 heavy-duty hydraulic gas lift.
The chair itself is made of soft HD ElastoMesh, which we found to be great on the breathability front. All its armrests are made of a durable polyurethane foam material and come in a leather option.
The wheels on its base are dual casters and come with an extra set. The manufacturer particularly promotes the smooth glide of their extra set over hardwood floors.
While the chair does not come assembled, it is relatively easy to put together. We assembled it within minutes, but there were two of us, so make sure to account for that.
Herman Miller Aeron Chair
The build of the Aeron is a treat for those who support eco-friendly products. It is made from recycled materials and powder-coated die-cast aluminum.
The seat in this chair comes with Aeron’s original pellicle and the upgraded 8Z pellicle option. It is a breathable material that relieves pressure from the right parts of the body.
The wheels come in two options, one for carpet use and the other for multi-surface use. Both are made of durable nylon plastic.
The best part?
This chair comes fully assembled!
Winner: With something to root for in both these chairs’ material and build, we couldn’t pick one. It is a tie as both deliver quality and tick the boxes on industry standards.
Chair Dimensions
The height, width, and depth of the seat determine how well your body will be supported on a chair.
Does it really matter? Yes, it does if you want to stay comfortable as you occupy the chair.
Typically, you’d want to fit comfortably in the seat with the armrests on both of your sides. You would also want the back of your knees to adjust to the edge properly and your legs to hit the floor just right.
We couldn’t find an industry standard in this aspect as every chair is slightly off or catered to one body shape and size only. Let’s now compare and see how these contestants fare.
NOUHAUS Ergo3D
The hip width of this NOUHAUS chair is 19.7 inches, and the seat depth is 16.3 inches. Its height is adjustable from 44 to 49 inches.
The Ergo3D weighs 49.29 pounds and can take a maximum load of 275 pounds.
Herman Miller Aeron Chair
The Aeron comes in three different size options. It has a height range between 38.5 – 43 inches, a width range between 26 – 28.25 inches, and a seat depth between 16 – 18.5 inches.
Its total weight is only 40 to 43 pounds yet it can carry a maximum load between 300 and 350 pounds.
Winner: The clear winner in this category is the Aeron chair with its options. The NOUHAUS is a great fit for the majority of our users, but it fails when it comes to users with different body shapes.

Chair Warranty
An ergonomic chair might not be the biggest investment you make for work, but it is definitely a more than worthy one. So, it makes sense to look at the warranty.
Most ergonomic chairs will come with a two to five year warranty period, which is the industry standard. However, some chairs may last up to eight years or longer!
Let’s see the warranty you can get on the NOUHAUS Ergo 3D vs Aeron chair.
NOUHAUS Ergo3D
The NOUHAUSE comes with a 3-year base warranty that is extendable for up to five years. That gives you a good industry standard lifespan for an ergonomic chair.
Herman Miller Aeron Chair
One of the biggest surprises for us was the 12-year warranty on the Aeron chair.
Winner: There is no confusion over this one, the Herman Miller Aeron Chair with its 12-year warranty is the clear winner!
